The air that I breathe

A series of portraits commissioned by Friends of the Earth UK as part of their air pollution campaign. I travelled around the UK and asked people what they thought of the air quality in their area.

Air pollution across the UK is a serious issue, with more than 40 cities and towns failing to meet the standards recommended by the WHO for Nitrogen Dioxide and Particulate levels.

'Every year, outdoor air pollution causes around 40,000 early deaths in the UK. It’s a massive health risk to us all – particularly the young, elderly and people on low incomes. The annual cost of these health problems adds up to more than £20 billion. Traffic fumes, especially diesel, are the main cause of the filthy air in our towns and cities'. Friends of the Earth
